AFF x Grazyna Kulczyk 2016

The Jubilee (10th) edition of the festival combining the world of art with the world of fashion Art & Fashion Forum by Grażyna Kulczyk had the theme „Different = Irreplacable”. Nick Knight SHOWstudio in collaboration with Art Director Wojtek Piotr Onak (working closely with founder) took care of this edition.

This edition of the festival made it possible to look at human nature, approaching it from a slightly different perspective than the human senses which had been the main topic in the previous 9th edition.

The jubilee forum touched the issue of differences and extremes, it gave the opportunity to get to know and hear, according to the Open University lectures, people operating outside the convention. The presentation of unconventional ways of thinking and the innovative approach to interpersonal communication reminded us and proved that by opening ourselves to otherness and trying to understand this otherness and eventually showing it to other people are the ways to get to know and understand ourselves.

These topics have been elaborated by great artists, creators and curators. In addition to traditional lectures, two discussion panels were shown live from the In Conversation SHOW studio series:

FASHION BEYOND THE BODY: a selection of art and fashion experts, including Lou Stoppard, Philippe Garner, Oriole Cullen, Stephen Jones and Joseph Bennett, discussed “Fashion Beyond the Body” .

MEMENTO MORI: included a range of artists and collectors including Nick Knight, Carrie Scott, Hugo Wilson, Claire Morgan and Kate Bryan.“The Memento Mori in Contemporary Art” included Cullen, Stephen Jones and Joseph Bennett, discuss “Fashion Beyond the Body”.

In turn, the New School workshops (in which fifty chosen people took part) led to the understanding and appreciation of human individuality and uniqueness – key features for creativity.

Five young creators – participants of the New School, operating in the categories of fashion writing, fashion illustration, fashion photography, fashion jewelery, and fashion design, received as part of the Art & Fashion Forum by Grażyna Kulczyk, a scholarship in Central St. Martin’s College of Art & Design in London. This prestigious university is a chance to develop talent in the international environment with the best teachers in the world.

The presentation of unconventional ways of thinking and the innovative approach to interpersonal communication reminded us and proved that by opening ourselves to otherness and trying to understand and show it to another are the only way to know and understand ourselves.
